The Finland underground project seeks, through modern photogrammetry techniques to build a 3d model of the Kaatiala mine in the Kurotane municipality. This model will allow an augmented reality experience, available to divers and non-divers alike, almost as if through the medium of your smart device, you can experience the thrill of exploration, including the smallest details.
As old industrial sites like quarries and mine workings are reclaimed by nature, then understanding how that once working environment is being changed, reabsorbed into the landscape as waters flood in, organisms and even time begin to break down the installations and constructions, is of great value and interest. Not only will this augmented reality experience immerse users in the adventure, but it will also create a story that educates on history, culture and environmental issues.
